Meet Amy, Your Atlanta Birth Doula.
Writing an intro blog about YOURSELF? Yeah, it's awkward.
Putting yourself out there sucks.
Letting strangers in on the intimate details of what makes you yourself takes a crazy level of vulnerability. People, so often, can be quick to make assumptions on your character, strengths, weaknesses, giftings and abilities. And if they make their assumptions based off of what we ourselves say and do, can we even blame them? But vulnerability is a beautiful thing. It's out of this place (of vulnerability) that community happens. This is where we find those we cherish and love. This is where we gain our supporters, our family and our tribe- the people who will cheer us on. This is a good thing. It's just that it can be.. awkward.
I'm sure by now you've read about me on my "Doula Amy" page.
It's great and all...super easy to hide behind. But there's so much more to me than my "Birthy Beliefs" lol. Choosing your doula should be more than "Can she squeeze my hips just right" or "Does she have experience with my care provider". Those are fantastic things to look for, but you also should really "click" with your doula. The relationship should feel natural and peaceful. I want you to feel safe, like you can take your mask off with me. And if you learn anything from me, I hope you learn about yourself the following:
You are more than your education.
You are more than your accomplishments.
You are more than the pretty foot you like to put forward.
You are definitely more than the many hats you probably wear.
These things, of course, are little bits and pieces of us. But that's just it- they're only bits and pieces! I'm hoping to get to know you in a real, deep and authentic way, so I'll hold the door open on our conversation.
So...Here are some things you should know about me:
I'm a believer about all else. I love Jesus. I live by His principle of "Love God, Love Others." I've supported families of many different religions. What you can expect from me is to be treated with honor, love and respect.
I love a good run on sentence. Growing up, my mom had a book called "The Little, Brown Handbook". I'm sure I break all the rules with my long-winded sentences! I am, however, really passionate about the correct usage of there/their/they're.
I cry at the Publix commercials every.single.Thanksgiving. Like, tears escaping down my cheeks, no control whatsoever. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I've learned to love that about myself. Life is so much more enjoyable when you love hard and let your fear of others' impressions of you fall off your shoulders.
I found out I'm definitely a cat person, only after we adopted a dog. Turns out you can always surprise yourself. Don't worry, I love our pup to death and she'll always be my 80lb cuddlemuffin.
If I like a song, I'll play it over and over and over again. I'm absolutely that person. Good things never grow old!
I paid $74. for my first car. A family I nannied for graciously blessed me with it when I was 19. I'm currently still driving her-praise be to God-she is still going strong! I've learned to thank God for the things He's given me even when they aren't what I want. His blessings stretch that way.
I always think that I'll like fresh mango, but I never do. Maybe it’s the texture? Smoothies, sure. Diced up with black beans/rice, of course. But fresh...eaten like a whole fruit? Oh, no.
My favorite food is tamales, something I fell in LOVE with from a former student's dad.
Some of my hats include grateful daughter, honored sister, blessed wife and loyal friend.
I'm a mom to a little guy in Heaven.
I'm a Biblically-true, people loving, redeemed believer.
I work with young people, and they absolutely teach me more than I teach them.
I'm a note-taker and a list-maker. I probably should be a TypeA but I'm too creative for that.
My 2 best friends are my husband and a toddler.
I love coffee, learning other culture's traditions, and I order all my books off thriftbooks.com.
So that's a little bit about me. I'd love to get to know you better!
I make a great cup of coffee and I have every tea you can imagine.
So call me, text me or come right over!
You are always welcomed here.
